Principal Consultant, Dangerous Goods Office

Ian worked in the research laboratories of the Central Electricity Generating Board before joining Pira, where he became involved in setting up the UN certification scheme for dangerous goods packaging, under contract to the Department for Transport. Subsequently he moved into the Testing business group, managing Pira's Distribution and Environmental Test Laboratories for more than ten years, before returning to the Dangerous Goods Group in 2003, in a regulatory, training and certification role. Ian has extensive knowledge of protective packaging in the distribution environment and the international regulations governing the transport of dangerous goods. He is also a UKAS assessor for ISO 17025.
