Car and Van Fuel Consumption / CO2 Databases

New Car Fuel Consumption - CO2 Database

Climate Change is recognised as one of the greatest environmental threats facing the World today and it has long been appreciated by governments that reducing the impact of the motor vehicle has an important part to play in addressing this threat.

VCA has developed databases listing most of the cars and new vans* available for sale in the UK. The purpose of this website is to:

  • inform buyers of cars/ vans/ 4x4s/ or pickups about how they can reduce the impact of their vehicle on the environment;
  • identify vehicles that offer lower fuel consumption or use alternative fuel types;
  • in the car database, identify the vehicle excise duty on individual vehicles based on their environmental impact (CO2 emissions);
  • in the van database, help buyers to choose the correct vehicle for their requirements by filtering, according to vehicle type, load length and other options.

The car database provides details of the fuel consumption, exhaust pollution levels and noise levels of most new petrol and diesel cars on sale in the UK. In addition, some non-petrol/diesel vehicles are included (LPG/CNG). Visitors to the site can use the data to calculate the likely cost of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) on a car they may be thinking about buying, and there is also the option to download the content of the database for those wishing to evaluate the data further.

In an attempt not to duplicate information, we have tried to provide alternative site addresses such as the Inland Revenue site for information on the new Company Car Tax arrangements, the NCAP site for details on crash test ratings as well as website addresses for the majority of vehicle manufacturers.

The van database also provides details of the fuel consumption, and CO2 emissions of most new light goods vehicles on sale in the UK. By light goods vehicle we mean vans, pickups and 4x4s with a gross vehicle weight below 3.5 tonnes. Visitors to the site can filter the data by the type of vehicle of interest - medium sized vans for example, vehicle weights and load length. Again, there is also the option to download the content of the database for further evaluation.

*By Used Cars, we mean those models that were previously availabale for sale, from 2001 onwards. There is a link on the home page of the site for enquiries about a specific car - where the registration number is known.

*By New Vans, we mean current year models available for purchase. Only those currently available for sale will be listed on the website. At this time, VCA are unable to provide data for previous years (pre-2009).
