EMAS, which is still a voluntary scheme, provides a way for organisations already certified to ISO 14001 to develop an environmental reporting system which is becoming more common in the market place and in such documents as annual reports. VCA has been recognised as a corporate verifier for EMAS. EMAS was relaunched in April 2002 with no real changes being made to the final draft. The restructuring of the scheme has allowed for better alignment with ISO 14001; expansion of the scope of application beyond manufacturing sites alone make it more accessible and complementary for organisations that are small and medium size. Also, the scheme now has a logo which can be used in advertising and on stationery but not products.
