MEMBER OF BOARD FOR CENTRAL SERVICES

Location: Brisol
Reporting to: Paul Markwick, Chief Executive
Grade: Grade 7 Pay Band 6
Salary Range: £ 44,500 - £58,170 per annum
Hours: Full Time

Description:

The position is Member of the VCA Board and will contribute to the strategic direction and general management of the Agency, reporting directly to the Chief Executive for the VCA.
VCA is a specialist technical Agency within the Department for Transport with a particular emphasis on automotive and related technologies. It is the UK EC/ECE Type Approval Authority and Technical Service for automotive approvals, an accredited management systems certification body, and the Enforcement Authority for various related non-automotive Directives.

Main Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic direction for global corporate services to deliver the full range of services including employee relations, equality and diversity matters, recruitment, facilities management, learning and development, health and safety, performance management, pay and reward, business continuity.
  • Develop people strategies that support business needs and implement corporate wide initiatives/processes.
  • Provide operational and strategic solutions to senior managers, contributing to the achievement of key business objectives and targets.
  • Ability to lead, guide and support the Central Services team in providing an effective support service to all VCA customers, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Supporting the development of wider Agency business activity.

Essential Skills:

  • Proven people/leadership skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels of business.
  • Evidence of developing and implementing innovative approaches to improve service provision.
  • Evidence of strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Expertise in a corporate service environment leading to organisational success.
  • Evidence of flexibility / adaptability in the face of change.
  • Evidence of comprehension of Civil Service Personnel policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record for customer service, delivery and capability.

Desirable Skills:

  • CIPD/NEBOSH (IOSH) qualified (or willing to work towards a professional qualification).
  • Experience of facilities management and health and safety matters.
  • Excellent analytical/IT skills.
